Discussion on Stadium Lights

The Tuckahoe Village Board is still in discussion and consideration of prohibiting stadium lighting. It appears they may not have heard from many residents on this yet. It would be a shame if we are not able to wrap this up quickly only to have Iona propose significant development plans for their site. We are very close.

Please email Mayor Omayra Andino at [email protected] and the Trustees to let them know your views. We are very close to putting this issue to rest so we will not have to deal with this situation again. The more support we have, the greater the possibility this is dealt with quickly.

Please forward this email to others who are interested and impacted.

Regards,
Ed Conway

Residents Against Tuckahoe Stadium Lighting

As of June 27, the Board is still in discussion and consideration of the situation. Unless the Board hears from more residents, we may not be able to prohibit stadium lighting in the code.

Meeting: Tuckahoe Village Board of Trustees Meeting on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 7:00pm
Attend: Through Zoom (details on tuckahoe.com website prior to meeting) or Tuckahoe Village Hall 65 Main Street Tuckahoe, NY

Although there is no current stadium lighting proposal being presented before any committee, we were able to have this discussed at the Board of Trustee meeting on June 7th. The Board is still discussing this. Stadium lighting and its associated negative impacts do not fit within the character of our village and our quiet residential neighborhoods so your support is necessary to ensure the zoning code clearly prohibits this going forward. Your views are necessary to make decisions that will impact our neighborhoods and villages and our quality of life. This is an effort to explicitly ensure no organization or institution can install these lights in the future.

Major Concern60 to 80 foot light towers in our quiet residential village neighborhood. These large imposing structures do not fit within the character of our village neighborhood, taller than most local apartment buildings, and towering over the houses and community. They are also too large for the small lot size on the former Concordia soccer field or elsewhere in our village. These lights will cause significant light pollution and will lead to traffic congestion and noise from sound systems for practices and games at night throughout the year.

Other Concerns: Former Concordia site is too small and not well positioned for significant sporting events.
